From making history as the first Black woman to win Miss Grand International to leading Ghana’s pageantry to new heights, Abena Akuaba’s journey is one of vision, purpose, and impact.
In 2020, Abena Akuaba made history as the first Black woman to win Miss Grand International.
Before that, she had represented Ghana at the 2014 Miss Universe and 2019 Miss Earth. She was also crowned Queen Beauty Universe in 2016.
After winning the crown in 2020, she returned to Ghana to use what she had learnt to impact other young women- leading and mentoring four queens in her role as President and National Director of Miss Grand Ghana.

Under her leadership, four queens have taken Ghana to new heights on the Miss Grand International stage.
Zahara Imann, being the first, to pave the way for Ghana, followed by Kitava-Yvettlana, who won the Grand Voice Award. Sage La’Parriea followed next, bringing home the Best in Evening Gown, and in 2025, Faith Mariaa made history as the 3rd Runner-up. Together, they have solidified Ghana’s presence on the global pageant stage.
Now, Miss Grand Ghana has become more than a pageant. It is a movement that celebrates strength, discipline, and purpose. Through her queens, Abena Akuaba continues to show that Ghanaian women are not just participants but pioneers leading, inspiring, and making history on the global stage.
