The Top 25 Ghana Fashion Industry Power List – Second Edition is a celebration of the individuals and collectives whose work continues to define the pulse of Ghana’s fashion ecosystem. From designers and entrepreneurs to educators, image-makers, models, beauty leaders, sustainability advocates and cultural custodians, this edition honors those whose presence and contributions have moved the industry forward in meaningful and measurable ways.

Makeba Boateng APR is a distinguished figure in the industry of African fashion and cultural heritage. With over 35 years of experience, she has made significant contributions as a Public Relations Consultant, Independent Researcher-Curator, Archivist, and qualified Personal Property Appraiser.
Boateng is the Founder of Fashion Forum Africa, a pioneering non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting African fashion legacies through research, exhibitions, and educational initiatives. Under her leadership, the organisation has become a vital platform for indigenous textile communities, established designers, and emerging talents, fostering important discussions around sustainability and cultural identity.
As a USPAP-ISA qualified personal property appraiser, Boateng specializes in the valuation of African cultural assets, focusing on textiles and historical design pieces. Through her firm, Boaten Personal Property Appraisals, she offers expert valuations and cultural consultancy to institutions, collectors, and estates.
Her extensive portfolio includes notable working with the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London, where she secured iconic Ghanaian designer, Kofi Ansah’s, presence at the 2022 Africa Fashion exhibition with notable contributions to various publications, including Marie Claire Nigeria and UNESCO.
Her dedication to nurturing Africa’s creative legacy continues as she collaborated with Debonair Afrik to organize a Fashion Design Summit in 2025, reinforcing her commitment to the growth and celebration of African fashion. Her enduring work continues to safeguard Africa’s fashion memory, ensuring that heritage and cultural identity remain central to the future of the industry.
She’s the Lead Curator of the Alternative Fashion Fabric Fair, a pan-African trade platform dedicated to the raw,
processed and semi-processed materials that power Africa’s fashion and creative industries, which is scheduled to take place from September 17–19, 2026, at the Palm Convention Centre, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.
Velma Owusu-Bempah (Milliner & Creative Director, Velma’s Millinery & Accessories)

Velma Owusu-Bempah is an award-winning Ghanaian milliner, accessories designer and fashion educator, widely recognized as the Creative Director of Velma’s Millinery & Accessories, one of Ghana’s leading luxury accessories brands.
With a career spanning over two decades, she has built a strong reputation for redefining the accessories space in Ghana through bespoke hats, bridal headpieces, fascinators, luxury bags and statement jewelry. Her brand is celebrated for its elegance, craftsmanship and contemporary interpretation of millinery, positioning her as one of Africa’s foremost accessory designers.
Trained at Central Saint Martins, Velma transformed her passion for handcrafted accessories into a thriving luxury brand founded in 2004/2005. David Kusi Boye-Doe ( Creative Director, Boyedoe)

David Kusi Boye Doe is a Ghanaian fashion designer and the visionary behind Boyedoe, an afro luxury fashion brand celebrated for its fusion of contemporary design, Ghanaian heritage, and sustainable practices. His creativity and commitment to innovation have earned Boyedoe global recognition, establishing it as one of Africa’s most exciting emerging fashion labels.
In 2025, Boye Doe made history as the first Ghanaian designer to reach the semi finals of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers, a prestigious international platform that highlights exceptional creative talent and places Ghanaian fashion on the global stage.
He was named Designer of the Year 2025 at the 10th EMY Africa Awards, an event honoring outstanding Africans across creativity, culture, and leadership.

Free The Youth is one of Ghana’s most influential streetwear collectives and creative movements, known for redefining youth culture through fashion, music, art and community empowerment.
Founded by Jonathan Coffie, Kelly Foli, Winfred Mensah and Richard Kweku Ormano, the collective began as a youth-led initiative to showcase Ghanaian street style and creative expression. Over the years, Free The Youth has built a strong reputation for its bold streetwear aesthetic, socially conscious storytelling and deep connection to Ghana’s underground youth culture. Dr. Clement Asemnyra (EdD) (Fashion Educator & Founder, Dreams College of Creative Arts, DCCA)

Dr. Clement Asemnyra is a Ghanaian fashion educator, the Founder and Technical Director of Dreams College of Creative Arts (DCCA), a premier fashion institution in Ghana dedicated to empowering designers with industry-relevant skills.
With academic grounding that includes an MTech in Fashion from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (South Africa) and a PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of A Coruña (Spain), Dr. Asemnyra brings both creative and scholarly depth to fashion education. Yayra Agbofah is a Ghanaian sustainability advocate, social entrepreneur and circular fashion innovator, best known as the Founder of The Revival, a community-led sustainable fashion initiative based in Accra that tackles textile waste through upcycling, education and job creation.
Growing up around Kantamanto Market, one of the world’s largest secondhand clothing markets, Yayra witnessed firsthand the environmental and economic impact of discarded garments entering Ghana every week. This experience inspired him to establish The Revival in 2018, creating a practical response to the fast-fashion waste crisis through community-based innovation and sustainable design.
Over the years, his work has focused on upcycling unsellable secondhand clothing, creating jobs for local artisans, and providing training opportunities for youth and women, particularly within the Kantamanto ecosystem. Through The Revival, millions of garments that would otherwise end up as waste have been transformed into wearable fashion, art and even protective workwear for local communities.
His influence within sustainability and circular fashion has received significant international recognition. In 2025, Yayra Agbofah won the Global Change Award, a major global recognition for innovation in sustainable fashion and circular economy leadership. Baboa Tachie-Menson (Digital Fashion Artist & Founder, Balm Labs)

Baboa Tachie-Menson is a Ghanaian digital fashion artist, 3D designer, and the visionary Founder and CEO of Balm Labs, one of Africa’s leading digital fashion agencies. Based in Accra, she is at the forefront of redefining how fashion is designed, visualized, and experienced through technology.
