Hats has for many centuries been status symbols and fashion statements; representing authority and power. Early pictorial depictions first appeared in a tomb painting from Thebes, Egypt, around 3200 BC.
It has been defined as a head covering, and though they are not the essential article of clothing that they once were, they are still worn by both sexes for fashion and for function. For some, wearing a hat blocks the sun and also lessens their chance of skin discoloration and spots. Others also wear them to keep them warm. Some hats are also worn for ceremonial purposes and by members of certain professions.
There are different styles and sizes of hats which makes it hard not to fall in love with them. There is the Ascot cap, Balmoral bonnet, Bearskin, Beret, Bicorne, Cricket cap, Chullo, Conical Asian hat, Sombrero Cordobes, Fedora hat, Straw hat, Trilby, Bucket, Dakota, Stockman and the Baseball cap – which is a personal favourite. In fact, it is the only type of hat I have been wearing for God knows how long.
Hats can be worn casually or dressed up – and in recent times, many people have developed unique ways of styling them.
