Tems Sparks Spotlight on Clapes Department

    by melange January 21, 2025

Founded in June 2023 by Laris Laryea, Clapes Department stands out for its mission to empower young people through bold, culturally inspired designs. The brand began with a simple oval-shaped logo but introduced its signature “four-petal flower” emblem in October—a symbol of growth, protection, and youthful energy.

Sustainability is at the core of its ethos. By using locally sourced materials, the label creates high-quality, eco-friendly clothing that remains accessible to its audience.

Initially recognized for its oval-shaped logo, the brand introduced a “four-petal flower” emblem in October. This symbol represents growth, protection, and the vibrant energy of the youth, aligning perfectly with its values.

The label also prioritizes sustainability, using locally sourced materials to create high-quality and affordable clothing. This eco-conscious approach is a significant draw for its youthful audience.

Even before Tems’ visit, Clapes Department was making waves in Ghana’s creative scene. Artists and celebrities like Amaarae, King Promise, AratheJay, Joey B, Mansro Dede, and Nigeria’s Odumodu Blvck have embraced the brand. Its collaboration with the Free The Youth (FTY) collective further cements its place in Ghana’s streetwear culture.

Tems’ endorsement is just the latest milestone for a brand that’s quickly becoming synonymous with youth empowerment and innovation.
