KENTE SHINES AT GHANA’S HISTORIC INUAGURATION

    by melange January 11, 2025

On January 7th 2025, a historic moment unfolded in Ghana as the first female Vice President was inaugurated. But beyond the political milestone, there was something else truly captivating: the vivid display of Ghanaian Kente which truly captured the essence of country’s culture.

From the President H.E John Dramani Mahama, whose traditional attire ‘agbada’ was exquisitely adorned with Kente, to the hat expertly crafted with the same vibrant patterns as the Kente, every detail was a celebration of culture.

And then there was the woman of the hour, H.E. Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who graced the occasion in a striking red and orange patterned Kente skirt paired with a kimono-sleeved top, effortlessly combining elegance with tradition.

We can’t forget the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central’s wife, Mrs. Violet Obeng (popularly known as Akosua Vee) who accompanied her husband Mr. Kwame Obeng popularly known as A-Plus in a green lace beaded Kente dress and Mrs. Joyce Bawah Mogtari Esq., also wore a colorful Kente designed by Christie Brown further highlighted the versatility and beauty of Kente.

Other notable personalities spotted in Kente include Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle Constituency, Madam Charlotte Osei, former EC Chairperson, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Human Rights Lawyer and former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection and many more.

If there’s one thing this ceremony reinforced, it’s that Kente is not just a fabric; it’s a living symbol of our culture and UNESCO’s recognition of Kente as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity couldn’t be more fitting.
