Fabric art is abstract and designers around the world are tirelessly developing innovative techniques such as fabric manipulation methods to design garments into one-of-a-kind pieces of art and that’s what comes to mind when the brand Metakay is mentioned or seen on a fashion runway.
Kwaku A. Kyere the founder and the creative director of Metakay started his fashion journey as an illustrator and now leads one of the most promising brands in the fashion industry. For this new Eunoia collection, Kwaku reaches deep into his love for Haute couture and fabric manipulation.
In an interview with Kwaku Kyere, he disclosed that the collection began with a curious hunger to create a fabric manipulation from pineapple scales which led to the arrow smocking method being used for the Eunoia SS22 collection.
He adds that the Eunoia collection is also to honour his parent’s zeal and passion as farmers and to inspire the youth in the agricultural sector to never lose focus no matter how long it takes to get to their goals.
My parents loved Agriculture. through it, they were able to take care of me and my siblings. This is to say thumbs up to all people like my parents in Agriculture and to celebrate them.Kwaku A. Kyere, Founder – MetaKay
Eunoia simply means “Beautiful Thinking” which clearly shows in each piece of the collection. The collection can be described as artistic and unique with each piece carrying an element of a wow factor. So far, celebrities like Claudia Lumor and Nana Ama McBrown have been seen rocking their midriff handmade smocked signature full skirt.
Fun Fact, this is their first gender-inclusive collection.
