Miss Universe Ghana Showcases 5 Ghanaian Designers on the World Stage

by Editor

The 71st Miss Universe Competition took place at New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center over the weekend. This year’s Miss Universe was highly anticipated and featured almost 83 ladies across the globe.

Miss Universe Ghana, Engracia Afua K. Mofuman represented Ghana this year. Engracia is 27 years old and holds a master’s degree in International Relations. She is also a professional model and French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese translator. She created the #PowerInThePencil Project, a campaign aimed at teaching illiterate children in Ghana how to read and write, the most basic form of education.

Even though she did not make it to the top 16, Engracia carried Ghana along beautifully through each piece of outfit she wore on her Miss Universe journey.

Check out some statement outfits worn by Engracia for Miss Universe and the Ghanaian designers who made them.

Raguel Deh

Raguel Deh designed the much-talked-about costume that Engracia Mofuman wore to walk the Preliminary National Costume Competition. The Women of Wonder national costume features a golden armor bustier, a ball gown, a traditional stool headdress, and a trident. The elegant costume tells the beautiful story of the female war leader, Yaa Asantewaa of the ancient Asante Empire, and tells the world how women are capable to lead. She was styled by Kelvin Cent Gh and Illustration by Earl Davis.

Anku Studio

Anku studio designed the mini black dress with adinkra symbols as its features. The adinkra symbols made it distinctive from the usual little black dress we know. Engracia accessorized the dress with bold jewelry pieces from Tru Face By Grace.

Nipo Skin

Nipo Skin designed the evening gown Engracia wore to the Miss Universe welcome reception at the Gallier Hall. The top of the gown was stoned and the down was flowy giving off the royal look. She accessorized the beautiful gown with a Charlie Lapson jewelry.

Pistis Ghana

Pistis Ghana designed one of her most stunning unique outfits which the beauty queen wore for her Day 6 rehearsal. The Kente mini dress was well-detailed and it represented Ghana in many ways from the colors to the detail all expressing the rich culture of the homeland.

Epiphani

Epiphany designed the gorgeous red dress Engracia wore for an interview. The well-detailed beaded red dress gave off a royal vibe which was well accessorized with statement earrings and a headpiece.
