October is the pink month. This is not a real men wear pink agenda, no. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a campaign to increase awareness of the disease and highlights its threats and challenges.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women worldwide. It affects approximately 1.4 million patients annually and is the leading cause of cancer mortality in Ghanaian women, with about 2,900 incident cases reported each year, and one-eighth of them dying from it.
This October, EVOQ Memorial Foundation, in partnership with the Fitrip Fitness Community, presents #kickoutcancer, a breast cancer awareness drive. It is a fundraising workout session where you bust some sweat and learn all about Breast Cancer. The proceeds would go a long way to supporting patient funding at the Breast Care Unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital in Accra.

EVOQ is a non-profit organization founded in January 2017 and launched in May 2017 by Mrs. Naa Oyoe Arthur-Mensah, Miss Malaika 2013 Queen. In 2012, Naa’s beloved mother died of cancer, and this foundation is founded in her memory.

EVOQ represents her mother’s initials. Since she won the pageant, cancer( breast cancer) awareness and children have been on her heart. Several outreach events have taken place, leading to the establishment of the foundation. Such events include breast cancer screening, breast cancer symposia at high schools, and several orphanages and hospital visits.
The event is held at the Fitrip Fitness Gym every Saturday from the 8th to the 29th of October. It’s aimed at having fun, working out sessions, and raising and supporting a worthy cause with each participant required to make a minimum Ghc 30 donation.
