The much-anticipated movie, directed by Ishaya Bako and co-produced by Genevieve Nnaji, Chioma Onyenwe, and Chinny Carter, is an adaptation of the acclaimed 2009 novel by Nigerian author Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani who was also present at the movie debut. 

‘I Do Not Come to You by Chance offers a contemporary take on dramatic comedy, skillfully crafting a compelling narrative around the struggles of a Nigerian graduate who unwittingly becomes embroiled in his shady uncle’s fraudulent email scam. It’s a story that combines humor and drama, promising a unique cinematic experience.

The movie was featured as part of the TIFF Centrepiece 2023 lineup,  formerly known as Contemporary World Cinema. This program honors and celebrates contemporary achievements in global cinema, positioning Ishaya Bako’s adaptation as a significant contribution to the world of film.

The TIFF premiere of ‘I Do Not Come to You by Chance’  lived up to its billing, creating a buzz on social media platforms. Early reviews lauded the film, setting the stage for its potential success in the coming months.
