The maiden edition of the GIJ mentorship dinner, an event organized by level 300 PR students under the auspices of the Faculty of Public Relations, Advertising, and Marketing (FOPAM), was held at the auditorium of the new campus on Friday, 7th October 2022.
The mentorship dinner had a number of mentors from the corporate world in attendance, speaking on the theme: developing a career path in public relations and event marketing.
Mentors present at the event include Praise Nutakor, Head of Communications and Partnerships, UNDP Ghana, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications MTN; Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Head of Corporate Affairs, Multichoice Ghana; Nii Amah Dagadu, Communications /PR Manager, ActionAid Ghana, Ohenewaa Brown, Director of Corporate Affairs, Ghana Tourism Authority, James Aruna Nelson, Obuobia Darko Opoku, who is Politician, Journalist and founder of the Obuobia foundation, Kojo Soboh, Director of EMY Africa, and Isaac Nurris Ainooson, PRO ECG Head Office.
The motive for organizing the mentorship dinner is to equip students with practical experiences in the field of event marketing.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Kojo Sobo, executive producer of EMY Awards, mentioned that event marketing is one of the most difficult jobs anyone can find; however, it is worth rewarding.
According to him, organizing a successful event requires proper planning and commitment, which begins with the process of ticketing. He further urged students to have a better understanding of events, aim higher and not settle for less since events are brands that need to be positioned.
Similarly, the Communication Specialist and PR Manager of Action Aid Ghana, Ohenewaa Brown, urged the students to protect their personal brands and that of their mentors.
The students were admonished to be mindful of their engagements on social media as they prepare to get into the corporate world
