How Ghanaians commemorate holidays can never be underrated. Taking a break from usual activities to have fun, ease anxiety, and release stress is very necessary sometimes.
In that holiday spirits, many people converged at the Gold Coast Restaurant in Accra on 21st September to observe Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, a holiday slated to commemorate the birth of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, one of Ghana’s founding leaders who is worth remembering.
The event dubbed Afro Connect, organized by 3FM, had numerous activities to showcase Africa’s rich culture through food, drinks, fashion, music, cultural performances, games and art exhibition.
The free ticketed event witnessed a rich cultural display from different cultural groups. The long-anticipated part of the event, dubbed 3FM Jollof war, had representatives from Gambia, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Liberia, Nigeria, and Ghana engage in a cooking competition to see which country gets to boast about having the best Jollof Rice in Africa.
Team Ivory Coast earned the bragging rights as the country with the best Jollof rice in Africa, with Team Nigeria coming last at the end of the competition. Team Gambia did their best by emerging second, with Team Senegal occupying the third position. Team Ghana and Team Liberia followed, respectively.
The all-day event was fun, with many TV and radio personalities from the media grace the occasion. The elegant contestants of TV3’s beauty pageant show, Ghana’s Most Beautiful, were also present at the event.
Here are photos from the event.
